How to prepare for a kitesurfing course in Sicily?

Preparing for a kitesurfing course in Sicily? Here are some key tips to help you get ready!

1. Choose the right time and flights:

Wondering when is the best time for kitesurfing in Sicily? The season at Lo Stagnone runs from late April to the end of October - we're there throughout this period so you can choose your dates freely. During these months, the warm Mediterranean sun and reliable wind create perfect conditions for learning and improving your kitesurfing skills. From mid-June to mid-September, we surf without wetsuits, for the rest of the season a 3/2 wetsuit should suffice.

It's best to look for flights to the nearby airport in Trapani - it's just a few minutes from our spot. The second option is Palermo - 100 kilometers from us. Catania Airport, on the other hand, is over 300 kilometers away. Currently, the best connections from Poland are operated by Ryanair - find more information here: https://unhooked-kiteschool.com/contact

We recommend booking the course in advance to secure your spot. To do so, please fill out our contact form.

2. Accommodation

It's best to look for accommodation through booking.com. You can also write to us, we have a surf house where we'll be happy to host you. We can also suggest several apartments depending on your expectations.

A bike will be useful on site, but it's best to rent a car for comfortable movement around the area. You can rent a car at the airport or write to us - we have cars for rent.

3. Prepare for Sicilian weather:

The Sicilian sun is beautiful, but it can be intense. Remember to bring sunscreen to protect your skin. For additional protection, consider bringing long leggings and lycra, which will shield you from the sun and protect your skin against algae.

Regardless of your skill level, we provide everything you need for the course. Everything from the wetsuit, through the harness, to the kite, bar, and board.

4. Prepare Physically:

Kitesurfing doesn't require special preparation or exceptional skills, but a better physical condition facilitates learning. Regular exercises, even just once a week, will prevent "muscle soreness" after training. Taking care of the neck and cervical muscles is essential, as beginners often complain about straining them due to watching the kite above their heads. In later stages, strong legs and fortified abdominal muscles become the key to success. A short warm-up before sessions and stretching afterward will help prevent injuries and make subsequent trainings more effective.
